چکیده

A girl of twenty had complained of pain in the right leg when walking, early fatigue and a limp, since breaking the right ankle three years before. She had not had any other accident or any illness. The knee could not be flexed without flexing the hip (Fig. 1). Conversely the hip could not be extended without extending the knee; indeed, extreme extension of the hipwas impossible even with the knee fully extended. Other hip movements were free. The patient walked with a slight limp because, to avoid concomitant flexion of the hip, she did not bend her knee and consequently tilted her pelvis slightly to the left. The Trendelenburg test was negative. Radiographs of the right hip and ankle were normal.

The effect of shoe insole stiffness on electromyography activity pattern of selected lower extremity muscles during running on treadmill

The purpose of this study was to determine the immediate effect of three types of shoe insoles, on electromyography activity of selected lower extremity muscles during running on treadmill. The electromyography activity of the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius lateralis muscles of 14 male athletes were recorded in non-insole,...

Resistance Training May Improve Rectus Femoris Muscle Parameters in Elderly Women

Background: One of the important issues in aging is sarcopenia characterized by muscle mass and function reduction. The present study investigated the effect of high intensity interval resistance training (HIIRT) on muscular parameters in sarcopenic elderly women. Methods: A total of 30 sarcopenic women aged 60 to 70 years (appendicular skeletal muscle mass index<6.76 kg/m2, hand grip<20 kg) w...

Rectus femoris and vastus intermedius fiber excursions predicted by three-dimensional muscle models.

Computer models of the musculoskeletal system frequently represent the force-length behavior of muscle with a lumped-parameter model. Lumped-parameter models use simple geometric shapes to characterize the arrangement of muscle fibers and tendon; this may inaccurately represent changes in fiber length and the resulting force-length behavior, especially for muscles with complex architecture. The...

Activation of back and lower limb muscles during squat exercises with different trunk flexion

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to investigate the activation of back and lower limb muscles in subjects who were performing a squat exercise at different angles of trunk flexion. [Subjects and Methods] Twenty healthy subjects (age 21.1± 1.8 years, height 168.7 ± 8.2 cm, weight 66.1 ± 12.3 kg) volunteered. The activation of the erector spinae muscle, rectus femoris muscle, gluteus maxim...

Anticipatory Electromyographic Activity and Onset Time in Selected Muscles of Lower Limb between Active and Inactive Old Aged Women

Introduction: The study aimed to investigate the onset time and the electromyographic activity level of the selected lower limbs muscles in active and inactive aged women. Methods: in this case-control study, 28 aged women with a mean age of 61.07±0.88 were selected in two groups of inactive (15 people) and active (13 people). The electrical activity of the selected muscles of the lower l...

Habitual dislocation of the patella in flexion.

Thirty-five patients with habitual dislocation of the patella in flexion were reviewed; eight were bilaterally affected. Each had undergone quadricepsplasty with an average follow-up of 6 years 9 months. Bands or contractures, most commonly in vastus lateralis, the iliotibial tract and rectus femoris were seen in each. Redislocation was seen in 12 knees. At review, 79% of the knees were normal....
